Cover from London to Tasmania, the stamp washed off, recorded from the flying boat “Calpurnia” which crashed into Lake Habbaniyah in Iraq. Handstamped ‘SALVAGED/(EX) “CALPURNIA” with a Hobart c.d.s. (Dec. 30) alongside, the reverse with a five line explanation of the incident signed S. E. Deegan above his cachet “SUPERINTENDENT OF MAILS/20 DEC 1938/GENERAL POST OFFICE/HOBART”. A very scarce and unusual cover from this crash.
