Poor Law Assessment form posted from Tighnabruich to Ormidale at the printed matter rate franked 1/2d green, sorted on the afternoon return journey of the “Chevalier” and cancelled by “IONA STEAMER / GREENOCK / 163” duplex code “B”, strangely reposted a week later with a 1d lilac applied inside to show the tax had been paid, another 1/2d green stamp applied over the original stamp and again cancelled on the “Chevalier” by the Iona Steamer duplex with a second strike below. The “Chevalier” steamer operated on the route during the winter when there were virtually no tourists and little mail, but did not get its own named datestamp until 1901, using the Iona Steamer datestamp before that. A very unusual and scarce item from the “Chevalier”.
