Entire letters (edge faults) sent from Woolwich to Elizabeth Moxon in Nottingham prepaid at the 1d soldiers concession rate, one headed “From Wm Hunt, Gunner 3rd Battn Royal Artillery” and inscibed “a soldiers letter”, countersigned by the Commanding Officer; the others also from Hunt to his fiancee but addressed “Wm Hunt Gunner, Royal Artillery, left with Elizabeth Moxon, Fishergate, Nottingham” and therefore allowed at the concession rate as the Post Office thought it was to a soldier, both with red “Woolwich CO / 1 Py P.Paid”.  The first letter was written for Hunt as he was then unable to write, and includes “I am now going to school in the evenings and am improving myself as fast as I can so I hope I shall be capable of writing to you in my own hand soon”.  An unusual pair showing the 1d rate from and to a soldier, though both actually from Gunner Hunt, the second possibly addressed in this fashion because the Commanding Officer was unavailable to countersign a letter on this day.
