Germany 1920

Official stamps, for use in Bavaria only, 5 pf to 5M, SG. O 137/154, distributed through the U.P.U. Berne as Specimen stamps without being first overprinted “Specimen”. The receiving postal authority affixed the stamps to official records in their Archives and handstamped each one “SPECIMEN” (in some cases with additional green crayon marking) thus confirming their Specimen status. They were later officially released from the Archives and are thus either without gum or are still affixed to paper. As may be expected with such Archival material, some stamps have surface scraping or faults.
