Entire letter written from San Sebastian by a soldier in the British Legion on printed “LEGION BRITANICA” notepaper featuring the crest of the Legion, with red oval framed “S. SEBASTIAN”, two line “ESPAGNE PAR / ST JEAN DE LUZ” and a London arrival c.d.s. The writer proposes leaving the Legion and setting himself up in business at Passages supplying the Legion, and requests various stores be sent. The British Legion comprised 9600 mercenaries, sent to Spain with the approval of the British Government to help suppress the revolt led by Carlos, brother of the former King Ferdinand.
