SPAIN to GLASGOW First Carlist War – 1836 (July 1)


Entire letter to Glasgow written by Lieut. Col. Wetherall from the London office of the British Legion on printed “LEGION BRITANICA” notepaper featuring the crest of the Legion. Wetherall writes “Sir, In reply to yours I beg to inform you that James Ross died on the 17th March last and that William White is still alive”. The British Legion comprised 9600 mercenaries, sent to Spain with the approval of the British Government to help suppress the revolt led by Carlos, brother of the former King Ferdinand.
