Cover from Alexander Jennings, proprietor of Swains Island which has a population of 100 and is 100 miles south of Fakaofu, Tokelau Islands and 170 miles north of Apia, Samoa. The cover bears a 2 cent American stamp postmarked on arrival in Pago Pago on 15th May 1931. It has a fine strike of the short-lived Swains Island cachet in mauve. With 5 page extract detailing the fascinating history of Swains Island from ‘American Polynesia’ by Edwin Bryan, published in 1941. Mr. Bryan was curator of collections at the Bishop Museum, Honolulu, Hawaii.
