Western Australia 1842


Duplicate Entire from Australia to England, with the rare manuscript “Post Office / Australind / 17th Sept. 1842”, just five months after the Post Office opened at Australind. Also handstamped by the first type “(crown) / GENERAL / POST OFFICE / PERTH” in black, the oval Ship Letter mark of Perth in red, and “SHIP LETTER” , also in red, struck on arrival in London. Endorsed “Post Paid 4d” and charged a further 8d as a ship letter. Also a 1960’s impression of the “POST OFFICE / AUSTRALIND” frank taken from the c.1842 handstamp.
